Wedding Speech Ideas for Groom and Bride

You may need to consider the groom and bride speeches together, when it comes to the speeches for your wedding day.

This does not mean, writing the speeches together, as this would spoil the surprise. But what is a good idea is to chat and discuss the broad guidelines and direction each of you may want to take with the speeches.

Decide on Who All Making Speech
Like any other speech, it is very important to get your moments and stories correct and making sure that one speech is not repeating what the other has already covered. This is one big reason why it makes sense that the groom and bride sit together and discuss the wedding speech ideas.

At times, all grooms and bride do make separate speeches. Only one of you can do a speech or both of you can do a joint speech. Before going ahead, it is very important that you discuss these points before moving to the next steps.

Preparing the Perfect Speech

Once you have decided about who all are making the speech, then it is a good idea to talk to your bride and discuss on the steps on preparing the speech. The intent is to avoid covering the same idea twice, unless both the groom and bride intend to bring a different perspective on the same topic. This can provide a funny and humorous moments which your guests will love.

You can even do a combined speech where one share the incident and other person can bring in his/her perspective.

I would not recommend sharing all speech with the better half, but sharing some of the idea's will allows both the speeches to feed on each other and make a memorable and lasting impact on the audience.

You can also check out some speech examples that make your wedding speech all that memorable.

Finding the Funny Jokes for your Groom Speech

The wedding speech needs to be like a mini movie , with the right amount of humor, drama, comedy and emotions interspersed with stories/anecdotes of the bride and groom and you have a hit movie. The speech itself need not be funny but a right funny groom speech can be great crowd-pleaser. You just need to make sure that the jokes do not offend any one.

The funny part should not come at the expense of anyone. When I was trying to incorporate the funny jokes, my objective was not to offend anyone. Speaking after my father-in-law speech, I wanted to make sure that I do not tread on any unknown and tricky territory and avoid any embarrassing moments for father-in-law and my bride.

Secret of a Humorous Speech
The usage of humor in my wedding speech made sure that I was able to connect with the audience and they were hooked to every word that I spoke. I used different jokes at different times and it allowed to keep the attention of everyone. Remember, the objective of the groom toast is to grab the center of attention along with the bride and keep the focus on the couple.

Remember, like the movie, you need to have some emotions mixed with few funny jokes that create a balance. It is a like a roller coaster ride, you say some emotional things and bring them back you interject with some funny joke making everyone relaxed and focused. I used my own nervousness and emotions to break the ice with the audience.

Another important tip to engage with the audience, remember you are talking to them not giving a lecture. This is not a contest, so you need not fret and learn to relax. The speech should come out as a conversation with the family members and friends.

One of the foremost rule when making speech is to make eye contact with your audience. Do not look blindly in one corner. If you are hesitant, make sure you practice the speech with your friends/family to make sure you come out with great guns on the big day.

Hopefully, these tips should help you get started on the right note. You can also make use of the wedding speech examples to hone and polish the jokes.

Making the Right Groom Toast!

In my last post How to please everybody in your Groom Wedding Speech, I talked about pleasing everybody. If you forgot to thank someone, it is still easy to manage. But saying the wrong thing in the groom toast can lead to complete disaster ! To make sure, I do not make any such wrong or nasty comment, I searched up and found some great tips that I am sharing with you.

Pleasing Your Bride

When talking about your bride, make sure you stick to all the favorable moments always. Anything that might even raise your bride's eye brow are better avoided, that means even the slightly teasing jokes or anything that seemed to be funny to you. Better stick to what your bride wants to listen and you can never go wrong.

Another important point, never compare your bride with anyone else. Whether it is your previous wive(s), girl friends or your mother. Your bride is unique and it is her special day. So make sure you stick with all the right things.

Drinking Alcohol

Having a drink before your groom wedding speech is not a good idea. Alcohol has the potential to make you say something wrong which can lead to a big disaster. So you are better off holding that drink till the end of the groom wedding speech. I was tempted because of the nervousness of speaking at the big occasion but I managed to hold off.

Additional Tips

Some other tips that can help pull off the best groom toast is to always set your objectives on what you want to convey but do not mug up the speech. Another thing I can not stress enough, is to plan ahead for the speech. Less preparation means you may not achieve the objectives and may end up upsetting somebody by saying something wrong. Further, do not drag your speech for long. The longer you go, the less impact it has  and higher your chances of making a mistake.

There are plenty of sources out there that help you write a funny groom wedding speech that does not offend anyone.

How to please everybody in your Groom Wedding Speech

The wedding day is the most important not just for you and your bride but all the other people in your lives. Your parents, in-laws, brother, sisters, aunts, uncles, friends and other relatives all part of your life and you must ensure to thank them. The whole idea is to please everyone to make sure your wedding day goes perfectly!

Thank Everyone who helped you make up ready for the Big Day

Before you start the groom speech, please make sure to thank everyone who helped you to get ready for the wedding day. Whether it is my best friend who helped overcome the last minute jitters, your beautiful bride, your parents, your best man. All in all, everyone who gave you any advice - make sure to thank them. One of the other important person to thank is the father-in-law. You can never thank them enough for raising such a lady of love and respect, so you better have nice words reserved for your father-in-law. Always thank them before continuing with the rest of the speech.

Talking about Your Family

All your friends and relatives would have made a great effort to grace your wedding day. And boy they love to know all those details - specially how you met your beautiful bride and how you proposed to her. You can not go wrong with that and this is always a big hit with everyone.

Next, I added some praise about my family - my parents and siblings. This is an important milestone in your life and what better occasion and chance to show the special people in your life, that how much they mean to you. Remember, you are today standing at the altar as a result of them one way or the other.

Your wedding day is just not about you and your bride. Its about coming together of two families and friends.

Even though I was nervous on my groom wedding speech, it was not too hard to please and thank everyone as long you are careful and prepare a little bit.

Plan your Groom Wedding Speech

The day I proposed to my girl friend and we decided to get married, I had started visualizing the whole marriage and that included the groom wedding speech. Having attended multiple marriages and seen plenty of movies, I knew the importance of the speech and I wanted to prepare in earnest. But the fact is, i kept postponing the speech just before the week of the wedding.

Not planning for enough time and preparing in advance was the biggest mistake I made. My recommendation to you all, do not make the same mistake.

Once, I started working on the groom speech, the words just started to leave me and it all seemed to be a very hard task. I wanted to make a lasting impression, standing in front of every one ( a la Steve Jobs) and here I was even struggling for words.

As days passed by and the wedding date kept getting closer, I am trying to think of memorable quotes, witty comments for my groom wedding speech and it was just not working at all. At some point, i just decided, to write down the random idea's that were coming to my mind.

Later, I did realized that this was not one of the most effective ways to plan your groom wedding speech but this at-least me got me started and allowed me to move ahead.

I started jotting down the idea's, using the speech prompts and guides, I gathered information about myself and my bride. I jotted down moments like - how we met, where we met, our first coffee, my first gift, how we grew close together, how I proposed and other such memorable moments. Next task, was to take these moments and try to put a story around so as to capture the essence of the relationship.

I guess, at this point, the key was to collect all those memorable and funny moments. The order or the actual content does not matter. The key to a perfect wedding speech is start noting down all the moments. Once you have crossed that hurdle, penning together the speech is the far more easier from there.
